Smile Building up my Kraken

Hey guys, Iv'e Received my parts for my Kraken, I thought I'd give you a quick show of the wood kit. I'm planning on updating the thread once the gun arrives and I'll do a simple walkthrough and how-to on upgrading the Kraken Body for anyone else planning this mod.

The wood kit I ordered was from E.B. Tactical, I was drawn to them because tey offer free shipping on all their items. The wood kit I decided on was the "AK Wood Grip Stock & Handguard Set(Grade A)" Located here: http://ebaybanned.com/product_info.p...roducts_id=934

Pics of the Body:

Thoughts:
The wood seems very light, Reminds me of balsa wood. This is not what I was expecting from a wood kit. Also, it seems like it would break if it was squeezed a bit while not on the gun. I don't have any doubts that the factory plastic furniture on the Kraken is far more durable. However, the workmanship and attention to detail is nice, the grain and finish are quite pleasing to the eye. Once on the gun, it should prove durable enough to play hard with, just don't drop the gun or you're sure to crack either the Stock or your pistol grip. They also incluse a little bag with screws for the hardware, and one for the pistol grip

MORE TO COME!

UPDATE:

Okay so Iv'e received my gun finally and Iv'e installed the body on the gun, looks great! Iv'e run into another issue that I should have researched on. The Kraken does not have a TM compatible hopup, so simply switching barrels doesn't work as I assumed it would.

I have to order a hopup rubber, that little peice of rubber that pushes the hopup rubber, and the plastic part that loads the bb's into the barrel. Once I get all these I'll be able to install my Systama .04 tightbore.

Installing the wood kit:

1) Remove metal rod from under the barrel by simply pulling down and forward, it will come right out, just have to take your time.
2) There is a #2 Phillips screw located on the bottom of the barrel support, remove the screw from the support block.
3) The support block should now slide forward easily, wiggle it a bit if it is stubborn.
4) Once the support block is moved you will be able remove the stock furniture, replace it with wood furniture. (you may need to trim the wood to fit)
5) After fitting the forward handguard secure the support block with the screw you removed, then replace the metal Rod.
6) Remove the #2 Phillips screw in the bottom of the pistol grip, replace the grip with the wooden one and secure it. (Kit includes longer screw)
7) Remove all 3 #2 Phillips screws from the plastic stock, pull off carefully and detatch the mini Tamaya terminal from the body.
8) Fit the buttstock on the gun and hold it firmly while you mark the screw holes with something sharp.
9) Get a drill bit that is smaller than the supplied screws by about 1.5mm, drill out your marked holes. (if you don't the wood may crack)
10) Remove the fuse box and battery terminal from the plastic stock, this is easier from the rear of the stock.
11) Connect the mini Tamaya terminal and run the wire inside your wood stock, then mount your rear stock with the supplied screws.
12) Remove both screws from your factory buttplate and seperate the plate from the internal clip, put one screw back in the clip itself for safe keeping.
13) Use the remaining buttplate screw to secure your buttplate to the woodkit, If you like you can glue the other screw in place for looks.

Thats it, Hope you all find it useful.

Heres pics of the gun!

Cheers!

That's why you order Cushak's oak wood kits!

The Kraken I got is from Banshee, it's the US model, I don't know if it's different but I'll try to describe the hopup unit.

The barrel itself is just a single piece of aluminum, no hopup notch in it at all, just a small piece that was cut out to allow it to be secured to the hopup/loading tube thing with a couple screws and a tiny bracket that clips onto the barrel.

the barrel has a piece of plastic that slides on the end, the plastic piece has the little nothch out of it where the hopup rubber goes in the hole. a very small hopup rubber goes on over this part. it's about 12mm in length, where a regular Hopup rubber is closer to 30mm.

I don't know if this helps you, but I sure wasn't able to install my Systema AK-47 barrel. I'll have to order more parts first.

You can see the peices that fit together, weird no? ................................ Check out the wacky hopup shape.

Only in the US models from what Amos and Myself have seen. the US model krakens have this wacky setup.

a stock TM unit will fit right in there though. so no worries if you want a tightbore. Just buy a TM compatible hopup unit, rubber and a tightbore and you're set.

That wood kit looks great, I would go back to wood but I really like the KA tactical kit on the gun much better. Its the AK look more modern as opposed to venerable

Purists need to get laid more often

Nice AK, Azriel. Looks kinda weird with the Kraken plastic body, though.
