Moding a clear gun
Hello
I'm starting off in the world of airsoft. I'm not a big on how I how REAL my gun looks like an AK or a M16. But I like design and cool stuff.. Like the gun of the Space marines in Aliens. I'd like to know if I'm barking up the wrong tree with my idea. Since it seem simpler to buy a clear gun in Canada, is it a good starting point for my Idea. If I get a clear gun and then I start by moding it from the shell to the mechanics. Or do clear guns have an incompatible MechBox??? Thanks http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/reso.../06/30wtmk.jpg http://www.rookscastle.com/props/anime/G_CX_01.jpg http://www.poseidon.co.jp/2F/ika/01.jpg http://www.shirowledge.com/Images/060520h.jpg |

paint it black if you want...but don't bother modding it..plink at home and don't bother fielding it in a game.

By the time you finish mod'ing a clear gun to the point where it can compete with non-clear guns, you'll probably have spent roughly the same amount of money.
With that in mind, I have heard some very favourable reviews of the Kraken AK's. They are a clear-gun but for the money you pay, they're decent.

if the company uses clear plastic receivers... then it's not worth modding(if you ever wanna use it) if your just going to use them as wall hangers than yeah, go ahead and get clearsofts. If you ever wanna actually play though, I suggest getting a JG gun, there about $250-$400 and they are really good, I have one and love it.

Thanks for all the feedback... but I still don't have an answer to my question.
Are clear guns compatible with the none clear guns when it comes to gears, barrels, etc. Plastic is plastic... I work with liquid metal for molding (PS not molten metal) I also use the stuff to make car parts... it's cool. Anyway thanks for giving me the REAL DEAL... moogy |

most clear guns are not compatible with high end non clear guns, but a few are. The Kraken AK is the most popular, being a copy of a TM gun, yet clear. Look for something that says "Tokyo Marui compatible" or "clone" or something along the lines of that. But be aware that even if it says 100% clone, it might not, and that parts quality may be very poor.

Sorry I thought I implied that Krakens would be compatible.
But as Diamond says, Krakens are the most compatible so far as they're cloned from Tokyo Marui. Some have even said the plastic bodies are thicker than what you would find with TM's, this is just what I've heard. You can probably get an aftermarket mechbox and hopup and drop it right in.

I'm looking for an electric clear.
The Krakens AK 47 seems to be a good deal. I fund this. http://buyairsoft.ca/catalog/product...roducts_id=353 I get a lot as a starter kit. moogy |

If you can get a Thompson, it is the best building base for the M41A1 (ak Alien puslerifle) because of the way the magasine loads.
On a side note, I found that some steel filled epoxy and some thin plates (alluminium or other) do miracles. I actually fixed a plumbing coupler to the end of a TM P226R with the epoxy thing. It is sold as exterior epoxy mastic in plumbing sections of HomeDepot or such. Usually in a plastic tube, about 10" long. Look for some white stick with dark gray or black center. For your information, it is the thing they put around hose outlet on houses. It can be drilled and tapped, but soft enought to work with an X-acto when not completely dry. Can also be sanded and painted, just like some plastic. AND IT DOES NOT EXPAND while drying like usualy epoxy mix (JB weld or 2 part liquid epoxy) |

Iv seen those pulse rifle set ups made from thompsons I believe. The ones in the movies were based off of real thompsons too.
Dusti69, our laws differ alot from what yours would be in the usa, Im not going to get into it because honestly the explanation is long winded wordy. With a real firearms its a diffrent boat entirely.

Yes, if you are going to upgrade your existing mech box, it will be compatible with most high end parts, but i highly recommend not adding a higher fps spring, your gear box shell will break.

@OP: no offense, but I'll cut right to the chance. IF you can in fact, as you claim, easily design and manufacture parts for a shell, then there's no reason to start with a clear receiver: simpler buy whatever high end mechbox and internals you want, and build around it.
Receiver aside, there's very little you can't obtain via aftermarket parts (mechbox, hopup & inner barrel, motor, etc). These can all be imported hassle-free. So all you need to do is build your shell around that. Problem solved. Otherwise this isn't just another pointless clearsoft discussion.
