Spraypainting guns

From what I have seen on the site, it is uncool to use a clear airsoft gun, as it doesn't look realistic. I obviously prefer a more real looking gun, but I don't know where I can pick up such a thing in Winnipeg. As far as I have seen you can only get clear guns, even at cabelas/S.I.R. So, I was wondering what you guys think of spraypainting guns. Alot of guns are black, but the exact same model aside from that, so if I paint the gun black, what would be the difference. After its sprayed I could always spray on a matte varnish to protect it from chipping.

But I have a couple questions, first, is it illegal? I know that if all I did was use it in my(or my friends) back yards, it wouldn't matter really. But I am interested in going to play at public places like xtreme tactics. The only problem is, I don't want to spray my guns, and then not be able to use 'em.

Also, will it effect the gun? I did it to a crappy little spring powered pistol for testing a while ago, and havn't had any problems, but if anyone has done this and had trouble then please let me know.

1. it is not illegal

2. if you're backyarding only use clear guns with oranges tips (if you MUST backyard)

3. turn 18, get a job, get verified and buy some real airsoft.

Not sure whats wrong with backyarding though, you can make you're own bases and stuff, especially when you got 13 acres like me. Sorry if I sound like a newb, cause I am one

I'll look around more in the FAQ for if spraypainting guns is ok, what I mostly wanted to know is will I be allowed to use a spraypainted gun at extreme tactics. *goes and searches*

Get age verified on here, and it opens up a whole new world of pretty much any gun you want.

Yea I want to, i'm 15 and a 1/2. so i'll be playing at extreme tactics soon, but can't get age verified for another 2 and a half years. Hope you don't despise me now that you know i'm not 18.

Chances are, if he's having "backyard games" with friends, he's not 18.

Asfor your question, you can paint your guns whatever colou you want and it won't make it any more illegal or prevent you from playing "real" fields. However, if you're not 18, you won't be allowed to play anywhere, so this may not even be a concern to you for several years. And guaranteed, your clear gun (short of buying a Kraken) will have died LONG before (within a couple of weeks of getting it) you get of age to play.

I did buy a kraken so hopefully it won't be 'dead' for a while yet.

And at extreme tactics it says you can play when you're sixteen if you're parents approve, and mine do.

It will be dead unless you do some preventative maintenance to it. Krakens tend to be the cream of the clearsoft crop, but they can still develop issues very quickly.And if you paint it, the disassemble the whole thing and paint the receiver separately. You don't want paint getting on all your other parts and stuff.

See www.mechbox.com. They have a whole video guitar on the disassembly and reassembly of a TM AK, which your gun is compatible with. They also have a video on the disassembly and upgrade of a V3 mechbox. You'd be wise to check those out SEVERAL TIMES before attempting such work on your own.

Tell you what, learn that gun inside out. If it breaks, learn to fix the internals. You'll be worth your weight in gold to the community if you can fix replicas. You've got two years and a lot of high school to procrastinate from.

Hmmm not sure what you mean dead, the first gun I bought I have had for about 7 months now and it is totally fine, lol, now you're starting to scare me though. 180 bucks doesn't come easy to me. If I had trouble, the guy I talked to at cabelas said I could go to extreme tactics and they can repair it for me.

Thanks for the link, i'll be sure to watch it if I plan to paint this gun, although I may just leave it for now, I have seen other people spray there guns without taking them apart, so are you sure it will hurt the gun?

You can't hurt a gun. It's mechanical, if it can go together it can come apart and back together. If you're careful you won't do any damage. Besides, if it does break, they will charge you an arm and a leg for parts and time (might as well buy a new Kraken...).

and if you cant afford a new kraken i wouldent suggest you get into the sport. on a side note what kind of safty gear do you use when playing in your backyard?

Ok, then maybe I should spray it, it would look cool for sure, i'm just worried about the paint somehow getting into the gun, and somehow messing something up. And to be honest, I don't feel comfortable with taking apart this gun, no matter how many videos I watch.

Oh one quick question about this kraken,(just got it yesterday so havn't used it) how long will the battery last? I was told to charge it for six to seven hours by a guy who seemed to be quite knowledgeable. So does anyone know approximately how many rounds I would get out of six hours of charging?

I have been using a mask, but I have heard tha bbs can chip(no I don't use bio) on the mesh, so I have stopped using the mask and now where a mouthguard(i got my tooth chipped so thats what drove me to do that) a bandana, a camo hat, and safety goggles. I also where bike gloves on my hands, and then pants and longsleeves. I don't really like having open skin

A general rule of thumb is 1 round for 1mAh. IIRC the Kraken comes with a 1300mAh NiCad, so fully charged about 1,300 rounds give or take a hundred.
