TM Sig 552 Seal with RAS
Long time listener first time caller from the deep south (ie Los Angeles California, USA)
I believe i saw a post a while back regarding the RAS front hand guard, and wanted to share a few photos of said RAS on my TM Sig 552 SEAL and a small how-to and some things i learned putting it together for there isn't much about it on the inter-webs It requires you to remove your old hand guard (duh) as well as the front post assembly, the gas regulator piece (in order to remove the front post assembly you have to take it out, remove a screw that is really long) and remove the whole front assembly (i can take pictures of the process if you guys feel the need for it) and you'll be left with barrel. After the RAS piece is put in place, i had to route the battery cable and battery to a battery box that looks like a PEQ2 (also a little concerning is the fuse is now outside of the gun, though if you tuck it behind a foregrip like i have, it should not cause you any problems but i am going to rethink this a little and are totally open to suggestions). The standard battery will fit if you remove the tray, but its a little tight, and once you've secured the RAS hand guard to the front, it's not something that you can pop on and off on the field. Also since you've now placed metal at the front of the gun, as well as put the battery outside of the gun, the center of gravity is a bit off, so its very front heavy. in fact without the foregrip and a sling, its a bit heavy. I've added a replica silencer to the front and a aimpoint clone from G&G, also a flashlight (M3 replica for a pistol, i'm looking into Rico Alpha 9 grip, which probably will be so heavy i fear i may stress out the plastic bits. i could get an all metal body but then it maybe just too heavy. Also note that the top Rail mount for the scope is a tad bit higher then the one on the RAS unit. While i've seen the B&T one for the real Sig is flush all across the top (and actually gets rid of the front post as well as the rear see link if you want to know what i mean http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...2-p1030040.jpg) so on with the pictures. I've down sized them a bit but if you want the full size "burn a hole through your internet connection for my DSLR never lived in the age without broadband" let me know! With the weight of the weapon in question, i am considering removing stock barrel and installing a longer one that i can hide in the silencer, removing the flashlight, adding a bipod and removing the aimpoint replica and replacing it with a ACOG replica or a rifle scope, making it some what of a sniper type weapon. (at least i'll be different compared to all the bolt action and SPR rifles around, not that there is anything wrong with them) Let me know if you guys have any questions or want to see more pictures. Thaks! |

Quick question, is it a G&P RAS that you have ?
Does it hold a 3cell Lipo in the handguard ? |

you could if you remove that tray that holds the battery but it rattles around and yes this is the G&P RAS |

it would actually be much appreciated if you could post pictures of the removal of the front assembly. i'm doing an overhaul of my JG and a RAS is part of the package.

That is one sexy beast. I love the look of rails on a 552.

I remember, a few years ago, everyone was caving in with the Sig552 fad. And all of a sudden, people where all selling them. It's a very good AEG, it's just not seen enough in Hollywood and with the US military to be of a constant fashion.
But I'd like to get one with a longer handguard and barrel. It would be my field assault rifle. That or an AK.

I bought one of those metal bodies. I can honestly say, I'm not actually sure if it was worth it or not. I'm still torn on the decision, a month and a half after I bought it.

what's affecting your opinion on it? is there anything definitively wrong with it? because, i'm just thinking of dishing out the arm and leg for the new ics 552 (its body looks to kick some serious cosmetic ass).

The plastic body is good enough for me. I played a couple of skirmishes with one, and I don't see any problem with it, other than the fact that it's not cold to the touch.
TM make great plastic body, look wise. The battery is a problem. I imagine the longer handgard can accomodate a larger battery. If not, I'll go with the f%#$ An-peq whatever option or the battery bag.
