DBC 6.01 vs Prometheus 6.03 455mm Barrel, Test Results
I have completed my test of a DB Custom 6.01mm vs a Prometheus 6.03mm, 455mm AK barrel.
I did my original test at the end of May 08, and it turned out the DBC barrel I had was defective. After getting a new one, and finding the time to do the tests, here is the story. The DBC 6.01 barrel tested is one of thier new "Uni-AEG" models. The test gun was my custom/upgraded TM AK47, with a Guarder SP120 spring, a 12g custom piston weight, the stock Marui hop up unit and bucking with a Big Out H nub. It has a Guarder 4x32 red/green illuminated reticle scope on it. At the start of the tests, the AEG had around 25,000 rounds through it. I did 4 groupings tests: 1: With the Promy 6.03 in the gun to establish a baseline. 2: With the new DBC 6.01. 3: With the DBC 6.01 after putting 4500 rounds through it. 4: With the Promy 6.03, put back in the gun after the DB tests, as a control. I did 4 tests on each barrel: 1: A muzzle velocity reading on my Chrony Alpha. 2: A 25 foot, bench rested grouping on 6 inch targets, done in my basement with Marui .25g BBs. AEG groupings at this range are not signigicant, but I have the range set up for my gas blow backs, so what the heck 3: A 75 foot, bench rested grouping on 6 inch targets, done in my backyard with G&G .25g bio BBs. 4: Long range tests were done on my local field with Marui .25g BBs. My son and I have a measured section of open field, with marked spots at various ranges from 175 to 250 feet. Tests were done with my son standing next to a tree at one end of the range, and me shooting at him from various ranges, counting the number of shots and hits. All grouping tests were done on semi auto after adjusting the hop up for best accuracy and sighting the scope in. Barrels were cleaned before every test. The Chrony: The Prometheus barrel shot 390 fps with TM .25g BBs as a baseline and the same when I put it back in the AK47 after the DB tests. The DB barrel shot 388fps with TM .25g BBs both when it was new and after it had 4500 BBs shot through it. The 25 foot groupings: The top left is the Promy baseline, the top right is the Promy control. The bottom left is the DB new and the bottom right is the DB after 4500 BBs. Both Promy groupings are 1/2 inch and both DB groupings are 3/4 inch. The 75 foot groupings: The top left is the Promy baseline, the top right is the Promy control. The bottom left is the DB new and the bottom right is the DB after 4500 BBs. Both Promy groupings are 3 inches and both DB groupings are 4 inches. The field test: 1: I've tested my AK, with it's Promy barrel in the past, and know it could hit a man sized target (my son) 9 hits out of 10 shots at 225 feet. I tested it again for the baseline test, and indeed my AK47 with the Promy 6.03 was able to hit my son 9 times out of 10 shots at 225 feet. 2: With the DBC 6.01 barrel in the AEG, with about 600 BBs through it (after doing the 25 and 75 foot groupings, and me dumping the rest of a hi-cap through the barrel) I was able to hit my son only a couple of times from a 10 shot group at 225 feet. In order to hit my son 9 times out of 10 shots, I had to close the range to 175 feet. 3: With the DBC 6.01 barrel in the AEG after putting about 4500 BBs through it, same thing. In order to hit him 9 times out of 10 shots, I had to shoot at him from 175 feet. At 225 feet, I could only get a couple of hits. 4: With the Promy 6.03 barrel back in the gun, I redid the 225 foot test. As before, I was able to get 9 hits out of 10 shots from 225 feet. As a matter of fact, I shot 20 BBs at my son, and hit him 19 times. Conclusion: Chrony: My results indicate that the Prometheus barrel shoots ~2fps faster then the DBC barrel with Marui .25g BBs. Jamming: I put tens of thousands of rounds through the Promy barrel and it never jammed once (using Marui and G&G .25g BBs). I put 4500 Marui .25g BBs through the DBC barrel and it did not jam once either. Accuracy: From my tests, the Prometheus 6.03 is over 20% more accurate then the DBC 6.01 barrel. It shot tighter groupings at 25 and 75 feet and was able to consistantly hit a man sized target 50 feet further away then the DBC barrel could. Barrel Break In: From my tests, I see no evidence of barrel break in. The DBC barrel shot the same after 4500 BBs were put through it, both muzzle velocity and groupings, as it did when it was new.

hmmm...no jams. Makes on wonder if we could run an even tighter barrel.
I know Bastards have stricter tolerance for size. D0 they even make a tighter barrel?

I've seen custom 6.00mm before, but even that barrel maker claims that accuracy will be worse than 6.01mm, with the only real purpose being able to attain higher velocity.
