Painting a slide : Need assistance!
Alright, So, I have this KWA 1911 I sanded bare. I hated the orange tip and needed to have it removed. So, I removed it. But now, I want the slide back to being black rather than the scratchy silver it is right now.
Anyway, I'm not particularily concerned about matching the color to the frame of the pistol, I just want something that gives a nice, flat finish. I've heard people use Krylon Camouflage : matte black. But i've handled the paint before, It seems to apply thick or powdery sometimes, Something I dont want. Also, If it really comes down to it, I do have access to an airbrush set. thanks for the help! (Note : The slide 'is' metal. Just incase that is of importance) ________ Asian Cams Last edited by Strelok; April 11th, 2011 at 12:11.. |

I used Krylon Camo, flat black on my (now sold) USP .45. It works quite well although make sure you let it set like a week then give it another coat and let that set another week otherwise it might chip. That Duracoat looks promising too. I'm by no means an expert, just telling you what I did.

Use duplicolour sandable primer (black) and the krylon camo black. The primer gives it a nice bond to the metal and the krylon is the darkest black out there. Most flat black paint is grey compared to the krylon. I did a finishing sand with 320 grit paper, primed it lightly, wait 24 hrs for a second coat of primer, then I left it a couple of days before putting the first (light) coat of krylon- wait 24 hrs- second coat. If the temp. is too cold you'll get the results you described above.
