Dboys AKS 74 Upgrade Help
Hi everyone, I have A Dboy/Kalash AKS 74 that I plan too upgrade. However I am new too the upgrades but I do want to do it all myself, need to learn sometime, I do know how a mechbox works and all the parts and their functions.. The reason I made this thread is too get as much information as possible with regards to what parts too use and what parts will be compatible with this band of gun.
I have been looking at all the parts for AEGS at WGCshop.com, What I want to do is buy a full tune up kit for this gun, I have three questions about this. Question 1:lots of their tune up kits say "for ak" does that mean any ak, will it be compatible for my brand, please explaine. Question 2: would I be doing the right thing buying a full tune up kit or would it be better too buy the parts seperate from different brands and if so what would be the pros and cons of this, please explaine. Question 3:What brand of parts have the best quality, reliability and performance, and in general what brands would you guys reccomend from personal experience. In conclusion I am trying too make a gun that will be durable inside and give me a high rate of fire, basicly giving me a very reliable AK. Can I please have the above three questions answered. And also what kind of hop up will be the best for accuracy to use with a long barrel. Thank you in advance all your help would be much appreciated. |

Be sure to spend time at mechbox.com for dissassembly instructions.
1) AK is AK in this point. Internals are the same(V3). 2) I've installed a Guarder FTK which has yet to give me any problems. The nice thing is that it comes with virtually everything you need to keep your gun running nicely. However, keep in mind the bearing size. I bought a Dboys complete mechbox of which had an odd sized bearing spacing. Perhaps someone who has this gun knows the actual bearing size. 3)Modify or Systema for me. I would also suggest you get yourself a better battery then the stock one. What FPS are your trying acheive? |

I plan too use a monster of a battery custom of course high capacity 9.6v for which this gun has lots of scape for. The stock one has too go not even an option. thx for reminding me about fps, I plan on making this a outdoors only beast of a rifle with a longer sniper barrel covered by a silencer and used with a pso dragenov type sight ak verient of course to shoot 400fps. I did look at the Gaurder kit it looks good. Keep the advice coming guys.

What do you by bearing size, thats the holes where the bushings go right?. and by odd size bearing space do you mean the holes are wrong sized?.

Sorry ya I meant bushing. On the mechbox I bought my 6mm and 7mm bushings were too small to fit the holes, so I just kept the stock nylon ones. It may have been just mine that had this issue, I know others have had little to no issues with Dboy mechboxs.
If your goal is 400fps, an M110 should get you there. |

Another question came too mind. When trying too improve a stock Dboys hop up what part of the hop up do you change or the whole thing, I dont know anything about hop up modification.

The most important thing is to keep it clean, letting the rubber soak in cold soapy water gets any grease off of it, improving your accuracy.
I'm not sure how the stock Dboys units are so you may not need to change it. |

I like the gaurder tune up kit but which one do I need to get, they have one for TM ak/aks and one for the TM ak beta I dont get it, if its the same version 3 geabox in all ak's then why are their two different kits for sale and why do they say for TM are they only for the tm brand ak's I thought all aks's have the same gearbox regardless of brand, Im confused which one too get.

i have an AK74S
and i'd encourage the following Classic Army 7mm Bushings *they do fit but it's best to have a bushing installation key to do the job* now you can go any brand for full tune up however the stock internals are not that bad the gears are of good quality the only thing i'd say to change would be the cylinder assembly use a bore up kit or something like that and an aftermarket piston aswell and you'll fly the stock spring is fine if you want it for 400fps also a guarder upgraded spring guide wouldn't be a bad idea either Systema red motor *stock b-boys motor has shitty speed and torque* guarder black hop up bucking |
