Starting out

Hey everyone,

After some research in this forum and online, I decided to get into this hobby. I used to play paintball a few years ago, and I sold all of my stuff back then.

Currently, I possess zero gear except for an old paintball mask which from what I've seen is compatible with this game, in time I will get a helmet.

I have decided to start out by buying a WE Colt 1911 from Mopic, and an MP5 of some sort with a collapseable stock as soon as I get age-verified. Hopefully I will get playing as soon as that is settled.

I e mailed someone to age verify me, waiting on their return.

If someone can give me some trial and error adivce they experienced when starting out this sport I would appreciate it greatly.

More to the point, BNIB TM's for about the same price as the WE once you're age verified...

My advice is skip the sidearm for now and put that extra $270 into your main gun. If you've got your heart set on a sidearm and a 1911 (I don't blame you, very nice gun) then don't go with WE, their guns in general and the 1911 in particular are plagued with problems. You want full metal, try KJW (you can get one for about $300 BNIB once you're av'ed). If full metal isn't a requirement then WA or TM is the way to go.

As for your main, if you like the MP5 then Classic Army (lots of full metal goodness) is the way to go, though you'd be hard pressed to get one for $500. You could probably manage a stock or nearly stock TM for that price. But the MP5 suffers enough against full size rifles without running stock. It really needs some upgrades, especially the TM's which tend to fire relatively cool stock. Of course if you went midgrade rather then highgrade then you could get an MP5 with some decent upgrades for that price. ICS or G&G aren't too expensive even upgraded some.

But really, if you can afford it, then highgrade is the way to go, especially for your first gun. So get the sidearm further down the road and put your all towards a highgrade gun right off the hop.

This depends entirely on your most common playing area. If you're in a CQB environment, pistols dominate. Not to mention, for a first gun, a bnib stock TM will likely last ages. Buy mags and a good holster.

I don't know about that. My MP5k dominates pistols, especially GBB's, in CQB. If the idea is major CQB minor outdoors then a mp5k pdw might be a good choice.

I sort of agree, a GBB outdoors is frustrating for newer players... But that's why I had an M4 CQB for both indoors and outdoors.

Ultimately, Neko's got the right idea. If you play both indoor and outdoors, it would be better to buy a reliable main gun with good mags, good batteries, and a decent load bearing system, then to have two guns which are of "ok" quality.

That seems fair, I have no problem holding off from buying a pistol, I am looking at the classic army website right now. Those are some good-looking guns.

I will be playing both CQB as well as outdoors, do MP5's suffer range against m4s? (i.e. CA mp5 and CA m4?)

I'm a pretty small guy (5'6" 135) and I think I would be more comfortable with a lighter gun, and the mp5 is lighter.

And I want a good amount of metal.

dont waste your money on a pistol. get your gear and a good rifle. a gbb is usually never used and for show, bragging rights. they do come in handy, but youll likley not find yourself in thopse positions until a little later on when you progress as a player.

stuff i reccommend alll my newer members
vest - go with phantom (pantec) they are the best out there. go with od as it works with everything and you wont need to buy a new vest when you change your camo.
bdu's - im a big fan of multicam as it is very versatile, works well in almost any environment.
boots - these are important, i reccommend magnums
eye wear - obviously, i prefer ess shooting glasses, some guys like ess goggles.. anywho, i reccommend ess
rifle - this is up to you, but either an m4, ak, or g36 are excellent weapons, upgradable and versatile (stick with tm, ca or star)

I'd like to expand on this:

The reasons for these weapons are quite simply there are many variants of each ranging from CQB short to Sniper long and have a lot of accessories and Magazines available. Also, there are more vests available for the M4 STANAG magazine than any other style, followed by the AK and G36 variants.

With the AK and G36, you can get side folding stocks (or under folding in the case of the AK) which turns a full length barreled rifle into something easily manipulated in CQB without changing anything drastic about the weapon.

The M4 has the unique ability to completely swap upper setups in under a minute, so you could buy a cqb barrel/inner barrel/hopup and have a spare upper to mount it to, so you can go from Indoor CQB to Outdoor Field without having to open the mechbox or unscrew anything. Pop one pin and change the uppers.

I think the CA mp5a5 looks amazing, does it have poor range?

well mp5s are ok, but they are a more specific gun, theyre not as versatile as more of the other guns out there. classic army and ics would be the only ones id reccomend for them.

Not exactly. It doesn't have the range or accuracy of an m14 or an m16 but it's not too much shorter then an ak or an m4. It really depends on the kind of terrain you're going to be playing in. Open fields, yeah mp5's not so good. But any kind of wooded area you'd be fine, especially if you found one properly upgraded.

MP5's are amazing.

Barrel length doesn't always = range.

It's all about how you tune it.. A finely tuned MP5 will outrange a M16

Also for a rifle, if your looking for Ak's, the CYMA Aks-74u, is a great buy, and can be obtained after AV from Bob the angry potato.
