Will M120 Spring work with my gun?

I'd like to upgrade to a Modify S120 spring, but I'm wondering if that will cause problems for my mechbox and internals. Mechbox is stock TM with metal bushings. Gears are stock TM. Piston and cylinder set are Systema. Motor will be a Guarder Infinite Torque Up. Battery is a crane 9.6v.

My current spring is a Modify M110. Rate of fire is good, but not satisfied with FPS. I'm aiming for 400-415 fps so I can use .28s with good range. I'm hoping that a motor upgrade from EG1000 to Guarder Infinite Torque will help make up for the loss of ROF. I don't want to do this if it is going to greatly increase the chance of the mechbox or other internals breaking. Any advice is appreciated.

You forgot to mention which version of mechbox it is.

It's an M4 with systema 363mm inner barrel. It is black in color with Bushmaster engravings and smells like the woods and silicone oil. Anything else I left out?

Next time, don't forget the important stuff. You also forgot to say what your current fps is.

According to Modify, you should be getting ~400fps with a SP110. You might be able to hit ~400fps without a hotter spring, if you can improve the airseal.

It is not recommended to use MS120ish spring with stock TM v2 mechboxes. They tend to break at that power or higher.

What's specifically in danger of breaking? The shell? The gears?

Shell, in front of the cylinder. A sorbothane cushion will help against breakage, but if you can improve your airseal, try that first. I recommend Modify air nozzle, cylinder head and piston head. You can throw in a Modify spring guide for a couple extra fps.

In my previous AEG, I installed a modify cylinder, cylinder head, and piston head and was extremely pleased with the compression. With my finger over the nozzle, I could not move the piston forward. It would immediately compress.

In this setup, however, it takes some quick movement to get that piston head to do its job. Knowing this, the reason I asked about a Modify 120 spring is because even with good compression in my previous AEG and the same barrel length and a Modify 110 spring, I only got about 380fps. That may have been because of insufficient contact with the hop rubber... it was an MP5 and the hop-up unit was kinda cheesy. I'll have to get my compression as good as possible and go from there.

Are you still using your stock TM hopup sleeve? If you are, try replacing that. I've had very good experience with Prometheus soft (purple), both in terms of airseal and hop effect consistency.

370fps with the Modify 100 spring and bearing spring guide from my tests. And that is from my MP5SD with 300mm innner barrel and two Ak47s I installed in as well as an M4A1.

If I can get past 200ft easy in man sized groups per burst, using 0.28g BBs in a 360fps (w/0.20g) MP5, stock 229mm inner barrel using a Guarder clear rubber............. why risk your mechbox for less range than that? Heavier BBs with hop up tend to go unstable when shot past 380fps , lighter get fucked around 100ft. Hell, my CA M24 typically runs at 490fps, I have gotten better range and effective accuracy out of it shooting 340fps (w/0.20g) and shooting 0.30g BBs, easy 300ft and 6 out of 10 shots are within a couple feet of a man sized grouping.

Ignore the rest, live like the best! Ok, play on words, but still, 400fps or more out of any airsoft gun is more bragging points than actual performance boost. Heck, I have my MP5SD that shoots 370fps (I downgraded it recently since I found my first year using it at just under 400fps....... last year.......... gave me the worse performance I've evern seen out of any of my guns, previously it was fucking stellar around 360-380fps w/0.20g), and my other one, my MP5A5 (the one I'd clear 200ft with) is now sitting at 300fps. Think I'd avoid using 0.28g BBs in either one for an outdoor game? Hell no, I even shoot at guys 140ft away with my G19 using 0.36g BBs and hit them sooner than they'd get a sight picture on me with their 400fps AEGs. Simple physics really.

More about learning the system of gun vs. BB weight than it is about getting as close to 400fps only to find out you still have a system that sucks.
