Going Metal on my GBBs

I have a TM 5.1 Hi Capa and a TM G17 3rd gen, both are stock and plastic plus I'll be running propane through them so metal slides will be needed or risk damaging the slide after time. Now correct me if I'm wrong but will I need to do some internal upgrades also to compensate for the extra weight of a metal slide? What else would I need to upgrade not so much for accuracy or power but more for reliability and durability.

EDIT: I'm sticking with all black on the Glock, keep it looking like the original if I can. On the hicapa, the 2 toned kimber slide peeks my fancy.

get either a stronger recoil spring, high flow valves, or rubber shock absorbers for the recoil spring guides, should reduce the impact enough

but as always, Illusion will set you up with ANYTHING you need

Here are the upgraded parts I run in my TM G17's:

PGC slide

Guarder Steel Trigger Lever

Guarder Recoil spring & rod (I only use the recoil spring)

Shooters Design hammer spring

PDI piston head

Airsoft Surgeon loading nozzle (I haven't tried it yet)

KM Hiflow valve (TM P226 & TM G17 compatible)

i have the same one... (rod) and they seems to have a finish problem (machined too rough), when installed in the gun it wont cycle properly...

maybe thats the reason why you are only using the spring

for the highflows, if you want to improve your stock valves, look on unconventionnal airsoft, there is a tuto on how to file a std valve to make it more like an highflow. tried it on an army glock and gained about 20fps

I've done the same valve mods to mine as well but I don't want this guy to get in over his head...I was trying to keep it simple for him!

...and yes I don't like the Guarder recoil rod, it's really a piece of $hit !

When changing the TM Hi-Capa slide to metal, you would also need to buy the metal outer barrel + chamber. Sticking a metal slide with your stock plastic barrel is pretty much useless as it will chew up your outer barrel.

Along with the metal slide, you would need an upgraded recoil spring and hammer spring.
That's pretty much it.

If you want more durable, there are hundreds of parts that Illusion can set up for you. He can also get you slides you want.

Awesomeness, thanks for the very quick responses.

EDIT: Has anyone tried the Airsoft Surgeon One Piece Outer Barrel? Caught my interest a couple weeks back and RW now has them in stock.

this barrel is "supposed" to keep the barrel fixed so the blowback dosent interfere with the accuracy... but the bb actually leave the barrel before the blowback kicks in... look like at 2:00 you can clearly see it . i think its more of a marketing thing BUT i could be wrong...YouTube - Airsoft slow motion-2 (CASIO EX-F1)エアガンスãƒÂ*ーà £Æ’¢ãƒ¼ã‚·ãƒ§ãƒ³é›â€*â‘¡

Replacement stock slides are $20, just to throw that out there.

You might prefer to responsiveness of plastic slides.

Theres also less wear and tear on your slide that way. Airsoft Surgeon slides were getting damaged terribly against steel barrels after about 2 mags worth of shots, rendering the entire slide useless.

Thats what I had understood also which was why I was looking at it. Its still relatively new isn't it? No reviews on Google.

Might have something to do with using
an extremely strong recoil spring. I've
heard the AS 150% one is like that.

Most aluminum slides are on par with
stock slides in weight give or take a
minute amount. Most of my Hicaps
are running stock recoil springs, a
few have slightly upgraded ones, for
a lil' extra snap.

You can put in an upgraded recoil spring, but you don't really NEED anything.

As already mentioned, there are a couple of other things that you should upgrade to support it.

1) Metal Outer barrel/chamber set.
Stock plastic chambers will get chewed up by a metal slide in short time.

2) Enhanced recoil springs
Increases the cycling speed. The heavier slide will slow down the blowback speed, an enhanced recoil spring is recommended, although not a full on requirement for operation.

3) For the Hi-Capa: Enhanced air seal nozzle
The stock nozzle is prone to cracking when shooting propane through a metal slide upgraded Hi-Capa, especially if you also have an enhanced recoil spring installed. It's highly recommended to upgrade this component. Airsoft Surgeon and Shooters Design both make excellent nozzles. The Guarder one is hit and miss.
