Making an airsoft gun
I have designed and made a prototype for my airsoft double barrel shotgun.
Do I need a license to sell these to a distributor? Also, the gun runs on a pin-fire system, to shoot the infamous MadBull shotgun shells. The only problem is that it will fire real shotgun shells also. How can I make a fail safe in case some dumb-ass tries to use a real steel shell? Thanks, Jaroche |

design it so that it fires TM Shotgun shells. essentially, you just made a firearm. im the wrong person to ask, but i think that is illegal.

SHIT!

I don't want the gas to be in the gun, I want it in the shells. Is there any way to just prevent the real steel shells from going off, but the MadBull shells will still fire? Maybe I could make my own shells to go with it, longer shells that do not fit real steel. That would require more capital, but if they sell.... Last edited by jaroche; October 4th, 2009 at 12:01.. |

Just make the barrels without forcing cones and the chambers stop exactly at the end of the shell. Then bore the barrels to something less than 12Ga because those BBs aren't packed in there like real shot. Out of curiosity, how long are those shells?
Then mark it very clearly as "for use with MADBULL airsoft shells only" This should take care of the liability, unfortunately if it will chamber a 12ga round then it will discharge and wreck the gun. It's much the same as 12ga flare guns, they are not firearms (or they'd be restricted and no use in Canada) but they can chamber shells. Cheers, Grant |

What I mean is, shotgun shells use explosive material, and MadBull shells use GAS. I wanted a way to make sure the gunpowder would not ignite, but the gas would still be released.

ya i understand that point. but im saying is that if the mechanism (i.e.: firing pin) is the same in both cases (to either release the gas, or to ignite the powder), than regardless of which shell you put into the gun, it will fire. See my point? i know what you want to do, but if both types of shells are activated by the same method, than your options are pretty limited.

The madbull shells are already 12 gauge, so I will have to leave it at that size. If the gun is ruined by a shotgun shell, it's their own damn fault! I'll work out a new CAD design immediately. |

Can't fix my own guns. Willing to fix yours.

just make the inside of the barrels like a CM across in the middle, so no real shell would be able to fire, just leave enough space for the BBs to pass through, dunno if its legal or anything, but it would render real shells pretty useless

have an airsoft inner barrel that the shells inner barrel lines up with. simple, if somebody buts a real shell in there it's just a hand grenade

it doesn't matter if the gun is destroyed. Japan has the same problem with Tanaka's pistol design. It was a pistol that had shells that held bbs and fired via a hammer. it was found that the pistols could fire real bullets. they Japanese media called it a one-time gun. meaning that while the gun would be destroyed, it could still fire a bullet. so that is why YOUR product is technically illegal.

Alright, here is a better solution:
Replace the "primer" part of the madbull shells with something that sticks out of the shell for say 2-3mm. Then make the breech-face of your gun with a corresponding recess. Make your firing pins/hammers long enough to actuate the Madbull shells but short enough to not reach a 12ga primer. Also consider using a fairly soft material for the firing pins/hammers to prevent them from deforming 12ga primers. This will of course mean modifying all of your shells, but it combined with the above modifications to the design would render the gun completely safe with 12ga shells. @ AngelusNex -
That would reduce the spread that is expected and wanted in a shotgun. @ grantmac - Good idea, however I could not sell the modified shells as my own; MadBull made them. I may end up making my own shells. |

@grantmac: That's the best idea I've heard so far, simple and easy to enact.
@jaroche: Thanks for having an open mind and listening to the community about the options, you'd be amazed how many people have come here before about this exact topic and when they get feedback it's "screw you guys, later!".. If you posted a build log in the upgrades section I'm sure everyone would like to follow along on your progress. |

That would reduce the spread that is expected and wanted in a shotgun./QUOTE] You ever shoot 3+ bbs from a gun, they automatically spread, even with the most accurate sniper setup possible. multiple bbs + 1 barrel still = shotgun... |
