TM AK47 questions- parts, metal quality & compatibilty.
Hello all,
I am working on a project which requires some TM AK parts... First off I need the stock tang trunnion(with screws) and outer barrel. What is the quality of these parts (pot metal, steel, or...)? I see that G&P has a steel outer barrel, but if the TM is steel I would just a soon go with them. I need various other parts such as the "battery tray" and charging handle. Secondly, is SRC brand AEGs TM "clones"? The reason I ask is that I have found a good source for SRC/TSD AK parts but I do not have the experience to know if they are the same as TM. If anyone knows of a good source for these parts could you please let me know. Redwolf does not carry some of what I need and UN Company is out of stock... As always any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

i'd say your best bet is to post a Wanted ad here. SRC aren't fully compatible with TM but with some modding they're fine. Guarder seems to be a pretty good brand and you can install most parts without too much hassle. If you were to work on an AK project, i wouldn't suggest getting TM parts as you would have to upgrade them later anyways... keep an eye out for conversion kits...etc. Good luck on your build

The rear trunnion is made of pot metal in TM's, and the barrel is not steel, but aluminum.
If you are looking for a large quantity of TM compatible parts for an AK47, you might well best be served by purchasing a "Kraken" AEG from a Bass Pro shop. |
