PTWs & Battery voltage

Well, finally I succumbed to the urge of getting of Systema's jewels. Quick question about batteries though ;

I'm getting a MAX version PTW (M150, M130), for which they recommend 12V batteries, however I also ordered the black cylinder (M90) for indoor CQB purposes. I was wondering, would I absolutely need to get 9.6V batteries as well in order to run the M90, or will the circuitry of the gun regulate the voltage to what's required?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Which model year are you getting? The 2007 had sensitive electronics when using non-recommended voltages, but usually the problem was using the 9.6V with the M130 or M150 (yes, guys did that) or using poorly charged 9.6V, or using 7.2V or 8.4V batteries (yes, guys did that too). There is some voltage regulation to run the electronics, but when using the M90 with 12V the rate of fire is going to be faster than your mags can feed, especially if you are using heavier BBs. Thia will lead to chopping and unless you do a thorough cleaning, you will leave BB remnants all over the place. I would say 1/4 to 1/3 of the barrels sets that have crossed my bench have seen chopping, and I ended up cleaning the hop-ups quite thoroughly.

Stick to the 9.6V for M90-M130.
