Can't install SocomGear DD lite
I recently purchased a Socom Gear Daniel Defence lite 7". I can't for the life of me install it correctly. So I put on my barrel and then add the plate from the DD lite that sits against the receiver. Next I put on the barrel nut, I can tighten this enough with the tool my G&G came with so my barrel does not wobble. Next I add the rail and put the bolts on and tighten then. Done.
Except... Now the rail can spin freely 360 degrees around the barrel. Did I not install the rail correctly? What is suppose to stop this from happening. Anyone who owns one of these ( or anyone else for that matter) please help.

Either the plate is on backwards, or you need a gas tube.

The plate is not backwards, and the hole for the gas tube is not a hole its just a small pit in the metal. I don't think Socomgear would make this beautiful rail with the intention of the end user having to drill a hole in it.

At (2)...same again, zero movement with the outer barrel? Then you need to put some barrel spacers over the barrel before you put on the nut (3). I think I used several on the last couple I did. Without a gas tube, friction holds the rail in place. ***REVISION*** The rail is designed to hold in place by clamping force. The rear plate that goes behind everything clamps the barrel/nut between the rail itself. Tightened up with the 6 screws properly, it shouldn't move at all. If the nut is tight and the outer barrel fixed in place (i.e. no movement)...and the rail still twists...then the excess space needs to be taken up by putting spacers between the barrel and nut. ************* It is extremely easy to simply drill a gas tube hole through the blocked areas of the RAS so you can pass a fake gas tube through. Use a drill press for a nice straight perpendicular hole. If I remember right...the location for the hole is just a little below the center of the divot in the ring (i.e. it's not dead center). It's much nicer with a gas tube, both for looks and no chance of rotation. Best of luck, Tys Last edited by m102404; October 21st, 2009 at 14:17.. |

the gas tube has zero effect on rotation with the bolt up system. I suspect the threads are different and you are not able to tighten it all the way. The socom one comes with RS threading I believe.
