What to do with a hot clearsoft?

Hello, I know this might have been mention before, if not, I'm kind of happy becasue that means I'm not a "search dummy".

So anyways, I bought myself a clear soft at Walmart. Thought I just get something nice and cheap as a back up.

Before I bought it, I thought it said "360 FPS with .12" but really, it said "380 FPS with .12".

So now that make it .8J which even with .25 it's shooting around 350 FPS.

The gun use the little CO2 tanks. You stick them in the mag, and it shoots.

So does anyone know how I could drop the FPS down to 300 fps or lower, but more than 250 fps? I heard putting it in the cooler could work, but having the gun rub against my pants would warm it up really quickly, so that's no good.

I've heard that I could get the little refillable cans(don't know the preper term for them, but their the little CO2 tanks) and fill it with green gas to lower the FPS with out hassel. But so far, I couldn't find any of them.

Any advice? If this have already been mention and your the admin that's going to lock this post, please at least give me a link to where I could find the information to answer my question.

Thank you all for reading!

PS: it's a Smith and Wesson M&P pistol

380fps with a .12g BB will end up being a LOT lower than 350fps using a 0.25g BB. Between 0.20g BB and a 0.25g BB, there is a 30fps drop. That's -30fps for +0.05g of weight. Between 0.12g and 0.25g, there is a 0.13g difference. My guess is close to 300fps for that gun shooting 0.25g BBs.

With .25 I'd expect about 250-300 fps tops, 300-320 tops with .20. that is WAY below "hot" levels.

And keep in mind that all chrono measures at games are done with .20.

So does that mean I can't use .25 to chrono?

If I shoot too hot with .2, what should I do?

I don't want, but 2 last time I chrono it with .25, it was shotting in the area of 350 fps. My friend was holding the chrono wrong, so I shot him and he was bleeding like mad!...

Oh well, anyways, so what can I do to not "guess" how much it drops. Also, A member pointed me to a conversion table for airsoft gun. It's fps to J.

I put in .8J with .25 bbs, it spit out 350 FPS...

So confusing...

Yes, you'll have to use .20's

Get another gun, although why you are intending to attend an event w/ a POS clearsoft from Wallymart is beyond me.

If you are using this page: http://www.cimmerians.org/FPS_Converter.html

Then w/ a .20g bb you would clock in at around 290fps, perfectly safe.

Sorry I read wrong. It does say 290fps.

Now I'm even more confused. Is it possible I might have tossed a couple of .12 bbs in?...

Because they did not let me use the pistol after chrono.

What might be the problem there?

Edit:
Also, I am interested in getting those refillable CO2 tank(whatever you call it).

Anyone where know I could find them?

Guys, no one seems to notice he said it chronies at 350 with 0.25g, which would be over CQB limits (usually 350 with 0.20g)

Yes... This is why I'm looking for a way to drop the FPS even more if I could...

I got my data (the 30fps drop) from actually testing 0.20g and 0.25g BBs with a chronograph. Using a calculator will give you the math for Joules, but saying the actual velocities will be what it spits out is like saying climate change is proven because a 'hockey stick' says so. Also, depending on the chrony used, you might get different results too. But try again with the chrony you (or your bleeding friend) have. AND, different brands of ammo can give you different results (maybe up to 20fps sometimes) due to the physical size (some are 5.85mm, others are up to 5.96mm), so that is a way to play around a bit with your chrony results for games and pinch the velocity down a bit.

Take a look at these results I got last year between two brands of 0.30g BBs:

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...light=bastards

SIIS 0.30g BBs

439.8
437.2
442.9
432.3
Average: 438.0

Bastard 0.30g BBs

458.7
458.0
455.6
453.2
Average: 456.4

And, you are also assuming that your gun actually DOES shoot a pefect 380fps with 0.12g BBs. What are the chances that is wrong too? All you can trust is your own testing with a proper chrony. If it's 380fps with 0.12g BBs, then using 0.20g BBs you'll see likely a 40-50fps drop right there. In which case you'll be fine.

Not to mention that with the CO2 caplets the first few shots are usually hot and then drop down to a reasonable and consistent pressure...

So I should dry fire a couple of times before chrono it?

Ya, I heard that with a new co2 tank, presure might be higher than normal. Guess this si true.

That's actually why when you play with a paintball gun that uses CO2 caplets, when you chrono (with a fresh CO2 canister) you get 1 "clearing shot".

So for airsoft, how many "clearing shot" do you think it'll take to get a normal rating? Becasue my local group chrono 3 shots, and all 3 shots shoots above 320 fps....

I also searched for the refillable 4oz CO2 canister. No luck.. People said they've been disconntinued.... Booo...

You should probably just not use a CO2 pistol for CQB.
