So I finally picked up my first bolt action, now I have no idea what is good to upgrade, and what kind of parts are compatible, any help would be good. looking to use .43's with decent FPS.

Thanks

.43's are reaaaallly heavy... I personally wouldn't use them unless I was firing 550+ FPS

Keep it around 400-450 FPS and shoot some .36 bastards

As for upgrades I'd suggest this;

http://www.x-fire.org/m24/e.m24_newtrigger.html
http://www.x-fire.org/m24/e.m24_p.cylinderset_vc.html
http://www.x-fire.org/m24/e.m24spacer.html

And possibly the hop-up and an AEG barrel.. I'm not fremiliar with the CAM24 hop up system... CDN_Stalker would be a good person to talk to about the M24... I can answer every VSR question

Upgrading to 450fps, I'd recommend these parts (you will need an upgraded cylinder for it, not sure if stock will work with these parts):

Guarder:

Ultra-light Piston for APS2

Piston head for APS2

7mm bearing spring guide for APS2

Clear Hop Up & Bucking rubber

First Factory/Laylax:

PSS2 130SP Spring

Prometheus:

6.03mm 534mm tightbore barrel (needs to trim off about 19mm to make it fit right)

All the above is what I have in my M24 (I have a different spring though, as well as the 9mm spring guide). That spring should give you about 425fps with 0.20g BBs, the tightbore will add another 10fps, and the bearing spring guide another 15fps, bringing you around 450fps.

This is in answer to roughly what to get to upgrade to ~450fps. All parts are the same in mine (ok, were at the time, I now have a PDI hop up chamber and a cut down spring to net me 400fps w/0.20g, where I used to run a Laylax 150SP spring with 9mm spring guide, was shooting around 500fps back then), and is a good place to start. Mine came used and abused with the crappy CA 300% upgrade kit, all that remains is the upgraded cylinder.

But what you can do is use that as a guide as to what to look for, don't need specifically that type, colour and brand.

the PDI parts that Amos listed are the bread and butter of high-performance BA upgrades

Why would I need one? The stock CA trigger assembly is built like a tank, adjustable, and I don't have a heavy ass'd trigger pull due to the Laylax spring. My sear is also polished and lubed with graphite grease.

Oh ya, Amos, the CA M24 hop up unit is the same as the APS2 adjustable hop up, it uses AEG barrels and hop up rubber.

Haha nice. That's a nice 150$ saved. Do you think a Maruzen APS-2 SV would be able to survive without one? Going to be looking at around 450 FPS i think.

That I can't answer honestly, don't have much experience with that rifle, but it can't be as bad as the VSR assembly and it's easily broken sears, is why most upgraded VSRs have Zero trigger, etc.

BTW, you don't need 450fps or close to it............ you know the rest. If it was a benefit I'd have been using it all year instead of 400fps.

Marui makes their sears fragile due to Japanese law.. You can fire 'em at 390 fps all you want.. but as soon as you go over 400, they break.

Maruzen.. is also a japanese company... Sooooo I'd suggest the V-trigger (or more research) ... but the V-trigger is nice too It makes your piston engage properly and not shift off-center!

But yea.. like I said.. I can tell you all you need about the VSR... but I have no APS-2 experience.. and limited CA24 experience.
